Thursday (August 25, 2022): 2023 Budget Work Session between GHI Board/Finance Committee

Set your reminders and plan to attend this important work session between GHI’s Board of Directors and the Finance Committee regarding our 2023 budget.

Budget planning is always challenging but especially so as GHI considers priorities including:

  • Tree maintenance and removal
  • Recruiting and retaining GHI employees
  • The plumbing repair pilot program for frame and masonry units
  • The 2022-2023 strategic action plan*

For insight into the 2023 budget, take a moment to review GHI’s current budget to remind yourself of its core elements.

How to Vote in GHI’s 2021 Elections

Prepare to Vote

GHI’s 2021 Annual Membership Meeting is almost here so get ready to vote!

As reported in the April 26, 2021 issue of GHI E-News, there are 7 candidates for only 5 open positions on the GHI Board of Directors so voting is crucial to our community’s future. You can vote even if you have only one favorite candidate.

Also, as of April 26th, there were just enough candidates to fill all 5 open positions for the Nominations & Elections Committee. The Audit Committee still needed one candidate to fill its 3 open positions.

I registered to attend the GHI Annual Membership Meeting and read the meeting packet to learn more about how to vote for this year’s slate of candidates. Below are excerpts from the packet that I found especially useful.

I hope this helps you successfully cast your ballot!

Monday (July 22, 2019): GHI/Greenbelt City Council Work Session

  • Proposed Widening of BW Parkway/I-495 Beltway
  • Playground Improvements

You can download the agenda packet here or see the list of meeting agendas on the Council’s website.

NOTE 1: The meeting will be held in the GHI Board Room, not the City Council Chambers.

NOTE 2: Visitor seating will be limited due to the number of meeting participants so be sure to arrive early. And maybe bring a seat cushion.

What? GHI/Greenbelt City Council Work Session

When? Monday, July 22, 2019.

Time? 8 p.m.

Where? GHI Board Room, 1 Hamilton Place, Greenbelt, MD 20770

Why? GHI and the City of Greenbelt have many areas of overlapping interest so this is an opportunity for GHI’s new and longtime members to learn more about this complex relationship and track progress on important issues.

Proxy Voting and the 2019 GHI Annual Membership Meeting

You probably know that GHI’s 2019 Annual Membership Meeting is almost here! Do you know how to make sure that your vote is counted if you cannot attend the meeting?

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2019. Check-in begins at 7:00 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Greenbelt Community Center Gym (15 Crescent Road).

If no member in your household (a person listed on your Mutual Ownership Contract) can attend the Annual Meeting, you can give your proxy to another GHI member who will attend. That member can register your vote on business matters and elections conducted during the meeting.

Get a proxy form at the GHI management office by Thursday, May 2, 2019.

Proxy forms must be submitted by one of two deadlines:

May 2, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. to the GHI management office or

May 4, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. to GHI Board Secretary Ed James (56-D Crescent Road).

Absentee ballots are another way to participate in elections if you cannot attend the Annual Meeting but they DO NOT record your vote for/against motions.

For example, at the 2018 meeting, members were asked to vote on a motion to protect GHI woodlands. You could NOT register your vote unless you were physically in the room or submitted the paperwork to give your proxy to another member who was in the room.

Why pass up a chance to use your voice?

See you at the meeting!

Comment by March 29, 2019: Protect GHI’s Institutional Knowledge

Please take a moment to read and submit your comments on the draft record retention policy to mgmtoffice@ghi.coop by March 29, 2019. What follows below are vital points for your consideration that were raised in conversation with a thoughtful, well-informed GHI neighbor.

Why this Matters?

The GHI Board of Directors is considering a draft policy that identifies routine categories of records generated in the course of routine business. However, there remains a number of records that have not been evaluated and categorized — unless the Board takes action through the policy, these records may be destroyed after five years without first being evaluated for their importance to the co-op’s institutional knowledge.
